In the beginning things seemed great. Nenek chiyo. They talk about career possibilities but no matter how hard you come in and work there is no focus on truly advancing qualified people (unless they are your friends). I saw numerous talented people get passed over for contract to full-time conversions and promotions all because the manager liked a certain 'type' of people.and that type had nothing to do with talent or what was brought to the job. Work life balance was horrible.

You were expected to take your laptop home every day and answer emails on nights and weekends. And even when you did this it was not recognized. A typical work day consist of dealing with various personalities in a tackful manner; troubleshooting building related requests (desk/office space, broken door, water leakage, building event requests, etc.); processing invoices (rent, property tax, utilities, cafe, fitness center, maintenance staff, vendors, offsite storage, etc.) and interacting with building management. What I've learned is how to maintain a neutral disposition (with a smile on my face) to get the job done in a timely and accurate manner without any major upsets. The management, that I've served under, have all been self-focused on how they can meet the year-end quota to obtain their bonus (none of which has been shared with non-exempt staff). The workplace culture is very friendly and the volunteer events are endless.

I don't think of any part of my job as being hard, just eventful and challenging. The most enjoyable part of my job are the great people that I collaborate with (internally and externally) on a daily basis. Recently, PepsiCo under went a restructure. After 24 years, with the company, my number was called. I LOVED pretty much every minute of my time with the organization. I've worked from home 20 out of my 24 years at PepsiCo, the last 3 I was located in the Chicago office. I would typically work 10-14 hours a day depending on whether I was in the office or traveling.

Lessons learned at PepsiCo were immense. Too many to list, but what I will say is I learned more about myself, and my capabilities in terms of being able to solve complex situations, by collaborating and utilizing all aspects of the organization to succeed in cases where it appeared we would not be successful.

Initiative, commitment and team were my keys to success during my time at PepsiCo. PepsiCo culture is very much 'sink or swim'. It is imperative that you seek out people who are immersed not only in the culture but are well connected throughout the organization. Training is not our best suit, but there are people who will take you under their wing to ensure your success. The challenge is YOU must seek them out. The most enjoyable part of my job are: 1.

Overall the people. The entrepreneurial spirit. Connectivity to our communities. Lastly, for the most part, PepsiCo walks the walk of it mission statement. It has afforded me so much personal and professional growth.

I could not have been happier to work for such an amazing organization. Okay, if you're not ready to put 40 miles on your car a day. Keep it moving. Now, after gassing up for your 6am start up. You will be working 3-4 stores in random areas for 10 mo. They can be easily 5-10 miles apart. Your management will be sup par, but you grow to like them from a distance.
